48. NERVOUS SYSTEM: How to Create Safety by Listening to Your Body with Integrative Health Practitioner Brian Donahoe
Show Notes

I often get asked “How do I get over my stress/overwhelm/anxiety/depression?”

Folks are looking for me to tell them exactly which protocol or modality to help them get out of their funk. “Is cognitive behavioural therapy the answer?”

 “Should I try reiki?”

“How about a therapist who is trained in internal family system?”

“What about acupuncture?”

My answer is this: As a healing community, we put too much emphasis on modalities and less on what will actually help relieve suffering. The bad news is that there is no magical cure or modality that will save us all (and be very cautious of practitioners who tell you that they’ve got the answer).

The good news is that the key to healing from stress/anxiety/depression is actually quite simple. Are you ready for it?

It’s safety.

Let’s break that down a bit…

Safety happens when you have pattern-breaking experiences that allow your nervous system to feel that what was previously scary is no longer scary. This happens in safe environments and safe relationships. And your nervous system is the part of you that leads this entire experience. When your nervous system feels safe, choices open up where things were previously binary, you’re able to feel curious instead of threatened and you have the capacity to feel expansive instead of stifled.

Listen to this episode if..
