Today’s episode is an invitation to be a pattern-breaker.
When we experience “negative” emotions like fear, shame, anger and grief...we isolate that emotion, put it in a box and hide that emotion so it never sees the light of day. However, this strategy doesn’t magically *poof* make the difficult emotions disappear. Rather, they show up through overblown reactions and physical signs and symptoms.
Some of us have closets full of unexamined emotions. And it is completely understandable that we do this! First of all, it’s uncomfortable to sit with difficult emotions. And societally, we’re validated for holding our feelings in. We tell our children to “be strong” when they are on the verge of tears. We tell ourselves that we have to “keep it together”.
This is why it is a revolutionary act to lean into our emotional pain. Being a pattern-breaker means that you are giving yourself the permission to follow cycles of pain to completion in order to integrate the feeling and story as a part of your lived experience.
This conversation with AmarAtma Khalsa inspires me to continue to surround myself with people who have done this deep work so that emotional alchemy can be a co-regulatory experience.
